You must have completed the bridge courses or passed the placement test. This is to ensure that individuals beginning the CCNA program have basic computer skills (able to use Windows, a word processor, etc). The placement test is free and can be scheduled at the Computer Based Testing Center in Carroll Hall.
How long will it take for me to complete the CCNA program?
The CCNA program consists of four courses, each of which is eight weeks long. It is designed to be completed in one academic year (two semesters).
How do I enroll in the Cisco Academy for the CCNA program?
These are credit courses so you must be admitted to the University, and then enroll as you would any other credit course. Courses must be taken in order. The applicable numbers are as follows:

Can I use these credits towards a degree?
These courses are incorporated into the Computer Information Systems Associate degree with the Computer Maintenance and Networking Option. They can also be applied to a minor in Computer Maintenance and Networking if you are also pursuing a bachelor's degree rather than an associate degree.
How much does it cost to attend the CCNA program?
Each course is four credits. So for a single semester, to stay on schedule, you would enroll in two courses. The cost, with associated lab fees, parking, etc. would depend on your situation and what other courses you may be taking.

The University's online information center contains the most current information about what courses are or will be offered. Go to www.uakron.edu, click on the "online information center" icon, and follow the directions to see each individual semester. There are no courses being offered to students this summer (Summer 2002), thus the next available openings will be in the Fall 2002 semester.
I have taken part of the academy program elsewhere, but never finished. What are my options for continuing?
You must be able to demonstrate that you received a 70 or higher on the online final exam on the Cisco Assessment server, and that you passed the skills test for each course you want to bypass at UA. You then have two options
1) bypass the course without credit and enroll in the next course (or courses).
2) elect to receive credit by processing and paying for "credit by exam" forms and enroll in the next course (or courses).
I have my CCNA. Can I receive credit for this?
The CCNA does not have any skills testing component. If you are pursuing a Computer Maintenance and Networking degree option or minor, you can receive credit for your CCNA if you:
1) received a 70% or better on the CCNA
2) process and pay for "credit by exam"
3) complete a skills test on setting up and configuring Cisco networking equipment that will take approximately 4 to 8 hours.
What are the prerequisites for the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) program?
1) Demonstrate successful completion of the Cisco Academy CCNA courses, including
a) 70 or better on each online final exam
b) graduated from each course
2) Have your CCNA and successfully complete a hands-on skills exam the first day of the CCNP class.
How long will it take for me to complete the CCNP program?
The CCNP curriculum consists of four courses. Each course covers the material for one of the four CCNP exams. Each course lasts an entire semester. Thus, it will take two academy years (four semesters) to complete the curriculum.
How do I enroll in the Cisco Academy for the CCNP program?
These are credit courses so you must be admitted to the University, and then enroll as you would any other credit course. Networking V, VI, and VII can be taken in any order. Networking VIII can only be taken after the other three are complete.. Only Cisco Networking V has been scheduled for the Fall 2002 semester. You must enroll in both the lecture and the lab. The courses are as follows:
